CORNELIUS, NC — If you're frustrated trying to figure out where and when you can get the coronavirus vaccine in North Carolina, you're not alone. For weeks, state and local public health officials have wrestled with a growing demand for doses of vaccine left unmatched by short supply. Compounding the limited supply is the fact that the quickest route to accessing a vaccine isn't always clear. Some community health officials have administered doses during first-come, first-serve events, while others take appointments. There are periodic mass vaccination events, such as those at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Bank of America Stadium, but doses may also be had at some area hospitals and smaller sites run by county health departments, pharmacies and Veterans Affairs. The first step in getting your vaccination appointment scheduled is to see if you're eligible to get it now. Who Can Get VaccinatedAs of Feb. 25, the coronavirus vaccine is available to the following North Carolina residents: Anyone over the age of 65 Health care workers Staff and residents in long-term care facilities Anyone working in child care and PreK - 12 schools Learn more detail about what vaccination group you fall into by answering a few questions on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' "Find My Vaccine Group" website, which may be found here. Where To Get VaccinatedIf you're eligible, the next step is to find a facility near you and book an appointment for an event, or through a vaccine provider.
