MARIETTA, GA — The founder of a transitional housing nonprofit in Atlanta was arrested and charged Thursday in Marietta with one felony count of false statements and writings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. The GBI said that Derek "Al" Sneed, 39, was selling community service hour certifications in exchange for cash at his Atlanta nonprofit, Alliance of Dreams. According to GBI investigators, Sneed would provide fraudulent documents stating the defendant had performed their court-ordered community service at Alliance of Dreams when they had not. Sneed was arrested with the assistance of the Marietta Police Department and booked into the Cobb County Jail. The investigation is still active and additional charges are pending, according to the release.
