Gov. Brian Kemp Appoints First Female State Accounting Officer

ATLANTA, GA — Gov. Brian Kemp announced the appointment of an interim state accounting officer Friday, per a news release from the governor's office. Kris W. Martins will be the state's interim state accounting officer, and the first female to serve in this capacity, according to the release. Her appointment took effect Feb. 16. Martins is replacing State Accounting Officer Thomas Alan Skelton, who left state government to serve as the director of research and technical activities for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, effective April 1, according to the release. Martins comes to the position as a certified public accountant and having served as the deputy state accounting officer for six years, the release said. She has also been a state employee for 12 years. Prior to her career with state government, Martins worked for Cingular, BellSouth and AT&T in consolidations and financial reporting roles, the news release said. She has a bachelor's of science degree in accounting from Miami University in Ohio.
