General Description Chainsaw operators operate chainsaws to fell, delimb and buck trees, and operate skidders to move or yard the felled trees from the logging site to the landing area for processing and transportation. Key Duties General knowledge of or have the ability to learn OSHA and appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Operate chainsaw to fell, delimb and buck trees at the logging site and loading area. Operate cable, or grapple skidder to move or yard the felled trees from the logging site to the landing area for processing and transportation Assess site, terrain and weather conditions before felling and yarding trees May work as member of a team rotating between chain saw operation and skidder operation May maintain and perform minor repairs on skidders, chain saws and other equipment. Qualification Requirements Forestry/Land clearing experience preferred. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees Physical Demands. Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties. Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools. Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance. Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment. Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions. The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely. Work Environment. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project. Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Must be able to traverse various terrains. Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information. Must be able to communicate with others. Must be able to maintain attention during dangerous tasks. Must be able to lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis, and up to 10 pounds on a frequent basis. Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day. Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work. Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools. Must be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
