Description

With ambitions of bringing their message of positivity through togetherness and community to a world in need. In 2017, Hurricane Maria ravaged the US Virgin Islands on her way to the mainland, leaving destruction and duress in her wake and uprooting the lives of the islands' inhabitants. One such person was Andrew Ricci, a Wisconsin native and longtime Colorado resident who had come to the islands almost a year prior to find a new lease on life. Though he was forced to return to his home in the mile high state, he brought with him a newfound desire to change the world through music, and the vision that became Luna Shade was born. Upon returning to Colorado, he began a long quest to find like-minded musicians who shared both his love for reggae music and his philosophy of strength through community and togetherness; initially recruiting fellow songwriter Jason Johnson, drummer Preston Gray, and Irieoso bassist Ismael Mendoza. After Jason's departure for the Pacific Northwest, Luna Shade brought key player Chris Rogers and lead guitarist Tyler O'Hare on board. This lineup would go on to record the group's debut effort, Flock Together, in 2019. A promotional tour was planned for the following spring, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to these plans like it did so many others. Never the type of group to let a global pandemic stop them, Luna Shade bounced back, using the newfound free time to re-invigorate their raw roots elements. Saying farewell to both Gray and Rogers and seating Mendoza on the drum throne, the band continued to move forward, recruiting bassist Phillip Fierro, rapper MC Archive, and Roots Massive's Dirk Deremo Jr. to help the group play any outdoor venue that was still open. After a whole summer of shows, including a sold out double bill with Write Minded at the Mishawaka Amphitheater, Luna Shade brought their new style back into the studio, and released "Sound to Sound" in November of 2020; the horn-laden homage to personal growth became their most successful single to date. With 2021 in full swing, keep an eye out for Luna Shade's newest release: "Phases", an EP showcasing an exciting fusion of old and new school reggae merged with elements of hip-hop, psychedelia, and more!
