DANBURY, CT — Police charged a city man with multiple drug offenses following a weeks-long investigation.
The Danbury Police Department began their weeks-long investigation following multiple complaints from residents that Jovanny Gutierrez, 39, of Hawthorne Cove Road, was selling illegal drugs from his car.
On Tuesday afternoon, investigators with the Danbury Police Special Investigations Division, assisted by officers from the Patrol Division and the DEA Taskforce, began surveillance of Gutierrez at his residence, and followed him as he drove to a local shopping center.
Police watched Gutierrez engage in what they described as a "suspected drug transaction" with Sopha Meng, 36, of Woodside Avenue. Meng was waiting in the parking lot when Gutierrez arrived, according to police, who took both men into custody.
While executing four search and seizure warrants, police said they took as evidence "a substantial amount" of money and prescription opioids in Gutierrez's car and home.
Police charged Gutierrez with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and sale of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $100,000.
Meng was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and released with a promise to appear in court.
