ACROSS ILLINOIS — The number of vaccines allotted to Illinois is expected to jump by mid-March, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Wednesday during a news briefing. That would be a game changer for state and local health departments, which have seen their vaccine dose supplies drop off in recent weeks. Officials said winter weather delayed many shipments to the state, where 58,141 doses are currently being administered daily. On Wednesday, Pritzker said that by the end of March, the state is expected to see a huge increase in its vaccine allotment. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will consider Friday whether to approve for emergency-use, could increase the state's overall vaccine doses by 20 percent by the end of March. "But even without that, we are going to have, by mid-March — by all the projections given to us by the White House and by the vaccine manufacturers — 100,000 doses per day for Illinoisans," Pritzker said. "Think about that. We are now able to vaccinate an average of about 60,000 people per day. That's going to 100,000 in just two weeks."
