GENEVA, IL — Geneva has recorded more than 2,100 coronavirus cases in the 50 or so weeks since reporting its first. More than 60 percent of those cases have come since the start of November, public health data shows. Geneva reported its first coronavirus case on March 10. By the end of September six and a half months later, the city had just over 500 total cases, according to statistics from the Kane County Health Department. Much like the rest of Illinois, new coronavirus cases started to surge in Geneva in early October. Kane County Surpasses 50K Coronavirus Cases The city's seven-day rolling average of new cases stood at 3 at the start of October but soared over the next eight weeks, reaching an all-time high of more than 33.7 on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), according to public health data. More than 1,500 new cases were reported in Geneva between Oct. 1 and Jan. 31 during that surge, which did not fully subside until mid-February, the state's data shows. Public health officials have reported 2,146 total cases in Geneva, as of Feb. 23. Nearly 40 percent of the city's cases have been reported in the past three months, the state's data shows. Thirty-nine Geneva residents have died from coronavirus-related conditions since the start of the pandemic last spring. At least 32 deaths have been linked to long-term-care facilities in the city, including 30 at Bria of Geneva, public health data shows.
