ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — A Bellwood man is accused of four counts of aggravated driving under the influence involving death following a Saturday night accident that claimed the lives of two sisters and their sons on Illinois 53 northbound at Kirchoff Road in Rolling Meadows. Lamar M. Graves, 32, remains in custody at the Cook County Jail with a $450,000 bond following Wednesday's charges.
Graves was traveling on Route 53 northbound at Kirchoff Road in a 2018 black Jeep Wrangler, according to police, at around 11:33 p.m. For unknown reasons, Graves veered off the roadway to the right striking the rear of a parked Ford Fiesta, driven by Stacy Harris, 45, of Schaumburg. She had driven there with her sister, Herlanda Harris, 47, of Chicago, and Herlanda's son, Jimarion, 6. The three had traveled there to help Stacy's son, Jeremy, 17, whose car had stalled on the side of the road, according to police.
The impact forced both vehicles to cross all lanes of traffic and come to rest on the left shoulder. All four family members were pronounced dead at the scene. Graves was taken to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the crash by Illinois State Police culminated in the arrest of Graves, who had been taken into custody Monday prior to the charges handed down by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office on Wednesday. The investigation remains open and ongoing, according to police.
