A Weightlifting Meet in downtown Birmingham, AL. Come lift with us and help grow the sport of Olympic Weightlifting in AL. April 10, 2021 The Bham Slam is Back! Join us at Wheelhouse Academy for the Bham Slam 2021, an Olympic Weightlifting Meet in downtown Birmingham, AL on Saturday April 10, 2021. All ages, weight classes and experience levels are welcome. *This will be a SANCTIONED event where competitors are required to have an active USAW membership and required to wear singlets during the competition. Visit www.teamusa.org to inquire about registering as a USAW member to compete in this meet and future sanctioned meets. If you are like us, we have missed Competition, Community and Camaraderie. To keep everyone as comfortable and as safe as possible, we will implement the following safety protocols: -Limited Competitors: We are keeping this meet smaller in size by capping each session to 10 competitors only. This will allow the day to continue smoothly without feeling over crowded in the warm up areas. -Shared Platforms: In addition to the smaller sessions, we will assign you to a specified warm up platform. There will be 5 platforms with 2 athletes per bar/platform/bumper plate set. (Ideally you will share with another team member) If you have any special request here, please let us know ahead of time. -Competitor Temperature: We will take temperatures during weigh ins. Any athlete with a 100.4 or higher will not be allowed to compete and a refund and/or meet credit will be given. -No Chalk Bucket: To minimize on cross contamination, we encourage you to use your own chalk during the meet. If you forget or cannot find any, we should be able to provide some for you. -Warm Up Equipment: We ask that all competitors clean their equipment after each session is complete. -Warm Up Area: Only team coaches will be allowed in the warm up area in addition to the current competitors of that session. -Extra Loader: There will be a staff person in charge of cleaning the barbell after each lift. We will use an alcohol based cleaner so that there is no residue left on the bar and the next lifter can be ensured a dry bar as well. -Masks / Distance / Cleaning: All staff will wear masks and we ask that all spectators do the same. The chairs will be spaced apart in the viewing area. We will also provide cleaning rags and spray to clean chairs if you like. -Spectator Needs: Entry fee will be zero charge for those wanting to stop by to see the action and support the lifters. We are working with a local restauranteur and member of Wheelhouse who owns Unos Tacos to provide the most delicious street tacos you've ever eaten. Stay tuned for more details here. If tacos are not your jam (are we even friends?) there are plenty of great food options nearby offering curbside pick up or even delivery.
