Long time Alesis SR18 users...I have a Question

Hi, I have a used Alesis SR18 drum machine that I can't get to recall the custom drum kit I saved in the Drum Set section. I'm using Drum Set, Jazz Kit 033 factory patch to start, naming it Jazz 02, but it won't save the "custom Foot Hi Hat" I saved over the factory stick hi hat that is in the factory kit, after I power down and then power back on? I've done save/copy/REC/Enter repeatedly at every step I can think of and it still won't save the "Foot Hi Hat" when the System Setup-Set Mode is set for "Pattern" after Power dwn/Up. Power down and power up and it's back to the factory Stick Hi Hat? If I have the "System Setup-Set Mode" set to Manual, then when I power down and then power up, I can select the Drum Kit "Jazz 033" and it gives me the custom drum set I made on any patch, which is correct I guess. I just can't get it to come back up first time if Set Mode is set to Pattern? This can't be right can it? Anyway, I figured someone could hip me if this is normal or not. I've read the manual repeatedly but it's not liking the custom Jazz Set on Power dwn/up. I'm thinking it might be a malfunction in a E-Prom if this shouldn't be happening.
