Something to remember about min wage increase. "" Increasing the minimum wage will NOT force businesses to close. It can actually create MORE revenue and jobs."" No, the min. wage itself will not cause lay-offs. But business owners trying to make a profit will cause lay-offs. And no, it won't 'create more jobs' ""This increase would be incremental. $1 per year for 7 years capping at $15"" And the lay-offs will also be incremental. People will hardly notice the unemployment rate is going up. ""People who make more in wages pay more in taxes. Our tax revenue increases with a min wage hike."' The last thing the government needs is more of our tax money to waste. They should be figuring out ways to cut budgets, before raising taxes. ""People who earn more spend more. Raising the min wage can and will actually increase business for many sectors. If people have more money, they will dine out more, shop more, travel more"" Prices on EVERYTHING will go UP. PERIOD. The people this hurts the most are those on fixed incomes, like welfare, social security. "" Raising the min wage would certainly bolster our economy. The secret to this succeeding is the incremental increases. No sudden spikes in pay"" The 'sudden spikes in pay' will happen, when the people who make $15 right now, demand a huge pay hike to keep up. As a businessman, here's what I will do about a higher minimum wage: My business employs 15 people. I will end up laying off two of them, so I can pay the other 13 a higher wage. The 13 people remaining, will be happy to work a little harder, to make up for the two people lost. I will quit hiring kids just out of high school, who know nothing. I will only hire people with EXPERIENCE, so I don't have to train them. I will raise my prices slightly, and call it a 'covid surcharge', or some other bullshit. I will cut my employees lavish benefits slightly, so I personally won't lose any money at all. I might even gain a little bit, who knows? The bottom line is this: Wage increases only affect the end user. The consumer. The consumers of goods and services pay for EVERYTHING If the Democrats came up with this minimum wage crap to make business owners suffer, they need to realize it doesn't work like that. Of course, Democrats have never been very good at math and economics. Higher wages means inflation. Inflation means poor people suffer. Older people suffer. Handicapped people suffer. Social security and welfare recipients suffer. These are the people who will NOT see a wage increase, they will only see higher prices everywhere they go. And politicians continue to become millionaire's on a government salary.... How does that work??
