Plymouth Fire Department Receives State Grant For Safety Programs

PLYMOUTH, MA — The Plymouth Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services to continue its fire education and prevention programs in 2021, said Fire Chief G. Edward Bradley in a news release. The department received $7,680 for the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program and $3,019 for the Senior SAFE Program. "These awards are extremely important this year due to the pandemic and the inability to meet face-to-face with our students and seniors," said Bradley in a statement. "The Plymouth Fire Department looks forward to continuing to provide these program to keep residents safe and educated even during the pandemic." The funding for the Plymouth Fire Department's two safety programs will allow for specially trained fire educators to give students and seniors lessons on fire safety while meeting the requirements of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Health Curriculum Frameworks and the Department of Fire Services Curriculum Planning Guidebook, said the news release. According to the state's Department of Fire Services, the number of children who die in fires in Massachusetts each year has dropped by 78 percent since the launch of the SAFE Program.
