2 Explosions Reported In Peabody, Fire Officials Say

PEABODY, MA — Peabody police said early Tuesday afternoon they were still trying to find the source of two "explosions" that rocked the city late in the morning. Police said the explosions happened in the area of Goodwin Circle to downtown Peabody. "We have been in contact with Lynn and Lynnfield police and fire, as well as Peabody fire and Peabody Municipal Light, regarding the disturbances, heard and felt at approximately 11:30 a.m. and noon," Peabody police said in a statement. "At this time, the origin is unknown to all parties. "We will continue to monitor and investigate the vicinity." Police said anyone with information on the noises should call the non-emergency line at 978-531-1212. The Peabody Fire Department said in a Facebook post around noon that police were investigating several resident "reports of two explosions." The department said there was no blasting work going on in the city. Some residents reported on social media the explosions were violent enough to shake houses. Some said they thought their roof collapsed or that the explosions were coming from their own property. Patch will update this developing story. There have been reports of two explosions in the last half-hour. There is NO blasting in the city.
