Description

NORTHPORT, NY — Mika, a female tabby around 3 to 4 years old, is the Northport Pet of the Week. The Northport Cat Rescue Association is trying to find her a home. "If she looks familiar, she was our cat of the week a few weeks ago," Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue, wrote in an email. "We are proudly featuring Mika again because we know so much more about her wonderful personality, after being placed in a loving foster home, patiently waiting." Mika was left behind in her neighborhood when her family moved away, according to Wild. Mika was seen for months eating out of garbage cans, trying to survive. A kind family eventually decided to help Mika, who was taken in by the cat rescue. Mika walks slowly and isn't the most graceful cat, Wild said. However, it keeps her foster family giggling as she waddles around. She is mellow, as she prefers relaxing and cuddling on a couch to chasing around a toy. "Happy to be picked up, Mika will purr and then politely stay wherever you may place her, a cross between being lazy and perfectly content," Wild said. "She is living with 2 dog foster brothers, and gets along with them, living in harmony, preferring to observe rather than engage. She loves head-butting and snuggling and being smothered with kisses. She has even proven to use her vocals as a form of communication to let you know what she wants. She is smart and loving and holds no resentment about being left behind, as her foster family so lovingly describes her as 'humble and fabulous- choosing to dance as if no one is watching.' She is truly a special girl and deserves nothing but the best." Mika is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. To meet Mika, or any of the association's other kittens and cats, head to its Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you'd like to meet her or any other cats.
