Marlborough May Host 'Mini-Mega' Coronavirus Vaccine Site

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A new regional coronavirus vaccine site may soon open in Marlborough. Mayor Arthur Vigeant told the City Council on Monday he has been in talks with Gov. Charlie Baker's administration to open a "mini-mega" vaccine site at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel along Felton Street. The site would be able to provide at least 750 shots per day, and could open as soon as March 1, the mayor said. As of Monday night, Vigeant said the city was still waiting on final word from state officials to open. Marlborough Hospital would provide nurses to dole out vaccines. The site would be for any state resident, not just Marlborough residents. "I think they heard us loud and clear, and we're ready to go," Vigeant told Councilors on Monday. Gov. Charlie Baker on Wednesday announced 11 new community collaborative vaccine sites around the state, which will give out about 750 shots per day. Marlborough was not among the 11 sites, but city officials said they are still waiting on the state to hear about doses for the local site. Marlborough has been running its own vaccine clinics for state residents, but the supply of vaccines has been shut off. Marlborough won't be hosting any local vaccine clinics for first-dose shots for at least the rest of February. The site would complement other regional sites like the one at the Natick Mall, which opened this week, and the site at Worcester State University.
