HICKSVILLE, NY — Yoga and Pilates classes will offered this Spring at the Hicksville Athletic Complex and the Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, though they will be socially distanced and there will be limited enrollment due to COVID-19, according to a Town of Oyster Bay news release. Yogis attending the classes must have face masks while moving throughout the facilities, have their temperatures checked upon entry, and the facilities will be cleaned and sanitized before and after each class. The classes, which begin April 5 at the Hicksville Athletic Center, run for 10 weeks. The programs, which are co-educational and open to people 18 years or older, cost $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Town Councilman Tom Hand described the yoga and Pilates classes as "great recreational programs" that "serve as the perfect opportunity to make new friends and stay physically fit." "To protect your health and the health of those around you, extra precautions and safety protocols have been put in place to make sure that these fun and enriching programs can operate safely and provide our residents with the outlet of physical fitness during these challenging times," he stated. Yoga classes, which begin April 5, will be held on Sundays, from 9 to 10 a.m.; Mondays, from 10 to 11 a.m.; and Tuesdays, from 8 to 9 p.m. A class will be held on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Each class includes stretching, core strengthening, breathing exercises, energy awareness, and meditation and relaxation. Tone and Sculpt Pilates will be held on Mondays from 8 to 9 p.m., beginning on April 5. Then starting on Saturday, April 10, Pilates with Props will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Both classes are designed for beginning and intermediate levels. Mats and water are advised; all other equipment will be provided by the instructor. Attendees must show proof of residency to register. Registration for the programs will take place at the Hicksville Athletic Center, which is located at 167 Bdwy in Hicksville on Monday, March 8, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 9, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; and on Thursday, March 11, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. After that, registration will continue based on availability. Class schedule may be subject to change and attendees are encouraged to ask about special holiday scheduling and inclement weather.
