Description
BROCKTON, MA — The City of Brockton will be holding the 80th Strand Theatre Fire Memorial Service on Wednesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the amphitheater outside Brockton City Hall.
The annual memorial service honors the 13 Brockton firefighters who were killed in the line of duty on March 10, 1941 while fighting the Strand Theatre Fire.
The Strand Theater, which was located at the corner of Main and School Streets in Brockton, was the largest playhouse in the city. The fire started in the basement and spread all the way to auditorium ceiling, resulting in the collapse of the west section of the roof.
In 2008, a momument was built in honor of those who died in the disastrous event and rests at Brockton City Hall.
This year's Strand Theatre Fire Memorial Service will be socially distanced and those who attend will be required to wear masks.
