WESTFIELD, NJ — Among the details from police reports released last week by the Westfield police, they noted two reports of burglaries to businesses on the 500 block of Westfield Avenue. Police said that Feb. 16, at 8:01 p.m., a business owner reported a burglary to his office. Police said the suspect was observed on security cameras approximately two hours earlier, entering through a side door and rummaging through the interior of the business. The business owner reported that two credit cards and $914 in cash were taken. The next day, a business on the same block of Westfield Avenue reported at 9 a.m. having been a victim of burglary and theft between that morning and the previous night at 5 p.m. The victim said an unknown person gained entry through an unlocked rear office window. Once inside, the person "ransacked" several rooms, police said, and stole $350 in cash from a desk in the office. Other items: Shore house scam, and more Police also reported these items: On Feb. 15, a Westfield resident said he or she submitted a deposit online for a summer rental. Then, the victim went to visit the property and found out that he or she had turned over the deposit money to someone other than the property owner.Also on Feb. 15, someone told police that a person had used her Social Security number to apply for unemployment benefits. However, the victim suffered no monetary loss.Also that day, at 8:28 p.m., the staff of a business on West South Avenue reported that someone "left the store with several items they placed in a bag." Police did not say what the items were, or their value, but the person left in a silver Cadillac.
