Palo Alto Sets Fee, Caps Visitors At Foothills Nature Preserve

PALO ALTO, CA — Palo Alto set a $6 entrance fee for visitors to Foothills Park — now renamed Foothills Nature Preserve — along with annual pass rates for residents and nonresidents after the city council agreed last year to no longer exclude those living outside the city to use the space. In their meeting on Monday, the council also agreed to cap the number to visitors to the park to 650 people at a time. Since the council eliminated residency requirements last November, the park has seen an influx of traffic. The annual passes will cost $65 for nonresidents and $50 for residents and city employees. Students, active military and veterans and those with disabilities will receive discounts under the new ordinance. "It's really made this a better ordinance," said Palo Alto VIce Mayor Pat Burt, according to the Mercury News.
