This service is provided by the Midwest Recycling Center (MRC) and allows residents (no businesses, please) to safely dispose of computers, radios, cameras, VCRs, CD players, nearly anything that has a cord or battery. Most items are free to recycle, but some fees apply to certain items. MRC staff will unload items from your vehicle and ask that you remain in your vehicle at all times. If any fees apply, cash or check payments will be accepted. What's New: By way of a grant provided from the St. Louis County Department of Public Health to encourage CRT (cathode ray tube) television recycling, the first 18 residents to register per session who would like to recycle a CRT TV will have this fee waived. If you have an old CRT TV to discard, please note this at the time of registration. You will be contacted by city staff if you are eligible to receive a recycling fee waiver. When you are checked in on the day of the event, you will be given a voucher. This voucher will be submitted to staff stationed at the recycling trucks in lieu of payment. As part of grant requirements, we must document and account for each CRT TV recycled. Thank you advance for your patience and cooperation during this process. Staff will call or email everyone back in the order they are received to confirm your reservation. What is a CRT TV? A CRT TV is an older style television that uses cathode ray tubes. The tubes inside the TV are particularly dangerous to the environment because they are made of heavy leaded glass. The leaded glass is categorized as hazardous waste and can be quite expensive to dispose of ($30-$50). The City of Maryland Heights has recently secured a grant through the St. Louis County Department of Health to offset the usual fee to dispose of these televisions. If you were waiting to dispose of a CRT TV, now is the time to do so! Please note, this grant does not apply to other type of TVs such as LCD, LED or Plasma TVs. If you will be disposing of a non-CRT TV, a $20 fee will apply.
