MALIBU, CA — The Malibu City Council meeting has been postponed from Monday to Wednesday due to a Spectrum internet outage that affected large parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Monday night.
Spectrum acknowledged on its Twitter page that cable was out at 6:22 p.m. Monday, just before a detailed council meeting was about to start. Though Spectrum reported that connectivity had mostly been restored at 7:06 p.m., the city announced Tuesday that two meetings - a closed session and the public meeting, had been postponed to 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, respectively.
Wednesday will be busy: the Council will review the financial report of the 2019-20 fiscal year, consider extending fee waivers for Woolsey Fire rebuild permits past June, consider a report on capital improvements options for the Big Rock Mesa Landslide Assessment District, consider awarding a $4,000 General Fund Grant to help rescue the Malibu Playhouse, and more.
On Thursday, the Council is holding its second special meeting regarding proposed solutions to Malibu's homelessness crisis. The meeting will feature an update on the legality of a proposed ordinance by Councilmember Bruce Silverstein arguing that the city has legal tools to more robustly enforce its existing No Camping Ordinance. Staff will also hear reports from city taskforces on updated proposals to address Malibu's longstanding homelessness question.
