DermoNeuroModulating (DNM) is an approach to manual therapy that provides the therapist with tools to interact with their client. DermoNeuroModulating (DNM) is an approach to manual therapy that provides the therapist with tools to interact with their client. Providing non-noceboic information to the client is paramount for any therapist practicing DNM. DNM offers a different narrative and gentle style of touch that allows for greater agency, self-efficacy, and management of clients’ symptoms and issues. In this class, we apply the principles of DNM to treating the cutaneous branches of the Cranial Nerves. This course, Assessing & Treating Cranial Nerves from a DNM Perspective, will provide practical techniques to improve your manual therapy practice. Additionally, this course will cover an explanatory model of manual therapy based on the current available evidence of many studies including pain science, neuroscience, and anatomy. Learning Objectives of this course include: 1) Learning techniques to approach your client an equal partner in treatment 2) Learning anatomy and pathways of the cranial nerves 3) Learning techniques for assessing and treating cranial nerves 4) Practicing techniques for assessing and treating cranial nerves 5) Practicing and understanding the difference between interacting with and operating on a client 6) The science and evidence about touch and manual therapy; difference between interacting with and operating on a client; ways to enlist a client’s self-efficacy (Friday night lecture/practicum only) Learning Outcomes at the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Build, Practice, and Creatively explore these tools with their clients symptoms and goals 2. Enhance their self-care, and clients’ self-efficacy relative to symptom management & lifestyle modification 3. Reason critically in the clinic and explain to clients possible what’s and why’s Course Duration and Cost: 8 hours per day, 9am to 5pm for two days (Saturday and Sunday). A 4-hour intro reviewing the fundamentals of DNM and the Autonomic Nervous System will be held Friday night, and is required for those not previously exposed to DNM. Cost for the weekend is $350. If you have taken this class before (either in person or on line), the cost for class is $150. Student Motivation and Knowledge Level: This course is recommended to all manual, movement, exercise and other bodywork therapists who use touch and/or assessments in their practice. Practitioners will have an interest in supporting their clients: • With techniques and practices supported by evidence • Want to understand the mechanisms of manual therapy • Want to improve their effectiveness with clients • Seek to help clients develop agency, self-efficacy with their bodies • Support clients presenting with some of the symptoms below: Trigeminal neuralgia, Balance issues, Headaches/Migraines, TMJ Issues Instructor Bio--Robert Rex has been a Certified Rolfer since 2005. In addition to graduating the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration, he also graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Robert has been published in Structural Integration, journal of RISI, and enjoys assisting clients find their mind/body integration through movement and brain retraining.
