ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda Police officers seized guns during two different traffic stops last week. The first involved a driver who "was unlicensed and did not have proof of insurance," according to a police report. "Since the driver had never been issued a driver's license, the car was taken in for safekeeping to allow the individual time to obtain the proper documentation required to operate a motor vehicle in the State of California. "Before being taken in for safekeeping, an inventory search of the vehicle was conducted. During the inventory search, officers uncovered an unregistered loaded firearm, suspected marijuana, and items commonly used for packaging and selling." The next day, an officer saw a speeding vehicle almost cause a head-on crash. The vehicle was stopped. "As the driver reached for documents," a report reads, "the officer saw a pistol magazine in the vehicle. The driver later confirmed a firearm was in the car." A loaded handgun and multiple magazines holding bullets were in a bag on the front passenger seat, a violation of California law
