PHOENIX — An El Mirage family purchased their daughter a new toy at the thrift store. They had no idea they would find illegal drugs, Phoenix police said. The Phoenix Police Department posted the story on Facebook Saturday. Parents purchased a Glo Worm toy at a local thrift store for their daughter and decided to wash and clean it before giving it to her. "Remember, please inspect all opened and used items for your family's safety," the department wrote in a Facebook post. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. More than 36,000 people died from overdoses involving synthetic opioids in 2019, according to the CDC.
