TUSCALOOSA, AL — Demolition began Tuesday on a longtime fixture of Tuscaloosa's retail economy as the McFarland Mall's property owner, Stan Pate, moves forward with a feasibility study for a proposed sportsplex and tournament facility at the site.

The derelict structure to the west of Dollar Tree was demolished Tuesday, while the east side of the overall structure, featuring the once-iconic Goody's sign, was left standing for now.
