Dock Hand Position
Carefree Boat Club
Job Location - Alameda, CA
The main duty of the dock hand position is ensuring the cleanliness of the boats. Floors and cushions need to be scrubbed with soap, sidewalls (inside and out) need to be wiped with a melamine sponge, windshields need polishing and drying, lines need to be untangled and wrapped, safety equipment needs to be accounted for and stowed in the proper lockers, and those lockers need to be rinsed regularly.
Other Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
-Understand the core values of Carefree Boat Club
-Review reservation schedules
-Provide concierge service for members
-Assist members with Float Plans (Check members out and in from boat outings)
-Review weather and brief members
-Understand vessels capabilities, systems, amenities and equipment
-Fuel boats
-Maintain boat batteries (test/replace)
-Respect marina and staff to ensure good working relationships
-Solid knowledge of surrounding water ways (San Francisco Bay) a plus
-Familiarity with boats and the ability to handle boats up to 27 feet is a plus but not required
-Assist with servicing and maintenance of boats
-Assist with inspection/replacement of props
Other:
-Proficient swimmer
-Valid drivers license
Education/Experience:
-High school or equivalent
The dock hand position requires shift working across a 7- day a week rotating roster, including public holidays and night time hours. The dock hand should expect to work on weekends, during peak times and special events. This is a part time position that could grow into a full time Assistant Dockmaster position for the right candidate.
