INDIAN WELLS, CA — A crackdown on drivers who speed through Indian Wells netted 47 citations over a four-hour period, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday.
The operation was conducted from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday by traffic deputies out of the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station. It took place after numerous complaints from residents about the high number of speeding motorists, coupled with an uptick in speed-related crashes, according to the sheriff's department.
During the crackdown, five deputies were each assigned to a specific location in the city. At the end of the four-hour operation, 47 citations had been issued, 38 of them for speeding, the sheriff's department reported.
"The Riverside County Sheriff's Department would like to remind everyone that speed is the number-one factor in most traffic collisions. Please don't be in a rush when driving, and don't hesitate to report unsafe drivers," the department said.
