Yardley Man Charged With Home Improvement Fraud In Newtown

NEWTOWN, PA — A Bucks County man who was paid nearly $5,000 for a home improvement job that he never completed was arrested on Monday, the Newtown Township Police Department said. Patrick Niles, 58, of Yardley, is charged with felonies of home improvement fraud, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. The arrest comes months after a Newtown Township resident hired Niles, who worked under the business name of PFN Home Improvement, to complete a home improvement project on their residence last year. Niles was paid in installments totaling $4,575 but never completed the work and did not return the payments, police said. After the resident contacted police in September, authorities learned that Niles is not a licensed contractor in Pennsylvania, did not carry liability insurance as part of his home improvement business and made no attempts to refund the resident's money or complete the project, according to police. Niles was arraigned Monday before Judge Michael Petrucci and released on $25,000 bail. His next scheduled court appearance is March 22. Be the first to know what's happening in your town and area.
