Press release from the City of Cornelius: Posted on: February 7, 2021 Posted on: February 7, 2021 How New Road Signs Promote Safer Cycling The Town's former "Share the Road" signs, which broadcasted an ambiguous message to both drivers and cyclists, have been replaced with a new, clearer message: "Bikes May Use Full Lane." "Share the Road" has long been a common sight on busy streets where cars and bikes must travel in the same lane. More recent research shows that the sign actually contributes to conflict between motorists and cyclists. "Bikes May Use Full Lane" hopes to reduce the ambiguity by reminding motorists that under many circumstances they cannot pass cyclists, especially when on a single lane stretch with double yellow lines. Sending a clear message such as this is in the interest of making our streets safer for everyone on them, no matter how it is that you choose to travel.
