DETROIT — Three people are dead following a shooting on a Detroit freeway late Monday.
Michigan State Police officials said they began receiving 911 calls reporting that the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each other on the express lanes of I-96 around 10:10 p.m.
A man driving one of the vehicles was shot and killed, police said. A woman in that vehicle was also shot and transported to a local hospital where she died, police said. State police said a suspect in a different vehicle ran from the scene and was hit and killed by a vehicle.

Police said the motive for the shooting is unknown and that detectives canvassed the area and spoke with witnesses for their investigation.
Both sides of I-96 were closed during the investigation but were reopened to local traffic Tuesday morning.
