Position: Metal Surfacing Organization Name: West Supply LLC Job Location: Chicago, IL FLSA Status: Non- Exempt Salary Range: $14 to $19 Purpose: Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools to execute such tasks as cutting, shaping, surfacing, and repairing primarily cast bronze products (Minimal - steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass). Other tasks may include sandblasting, touch-up welding (minimal), and daily cleaning routines. Education: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) Skills: Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods Technical Skills Judgment and Decision Making - Approaching tasks, situations, or problems with informed decisions whether it be knowledge of process, product, drawing parameters, or consultation within the team. Equipment Maintenance- Performing routine maintenance on tools/equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Equipment Selection- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Quality Control Analysis- Inspecting products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Job Responsibilities Safely, accurately and efficiently execute grinding procedures with hand-held o stationary grinding equipment. Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools. Inspect or measure finished workpieces to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, squares, or levels. Lift and position workpieces manually onto work surfaces or carts. Study blueprints/technical drawings to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences. Operates sandblasting booths or cabinets. Perform daily cleaning tasks (departmental and facility-wide). Understand, use, and maintain safety gear (PPE). Understand, use, and maintain tools and equipment. Actively work within a team in an efficient, positive, and effective manner. Physical Environment / Working Conditions Spend time bending or twisting the body, making repetitive motions. Spend time crouching, climbing, standing, stooping, lifting, & feeling for long periods of time throughout the day. Must lift 20-40 lbs. and carry 50-80 lbs. Push/pull, handle up to 100 lbs. Exposure to contaminants such as: dust, metal shavings, sand, grinding media or fumes. Exposure to extremely bright or inadequate lighting. Sounds, exposure to elevated noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Very hot, humid or cold conditions. Exposure to hazardous conditions. Exposure to hazardous equipment. Exposure to minor burns, cuts, or rashes.
