General Laborer Seeking a Laborer for a local portfolio company of MW Family Holdings, LLC in Traverse City, MI. Successful applicants will have verifiable experience in the construction industry, be able to work extended hours and enjoy working in team environments. A pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check is required of all successful candidates. Team members will perform tasks involving physical labor at residential, commercial, and heavy construction projects, shoreline erosion control, and demolition sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. May provide winter services, including snow plowing, removal and shoveling. Assist other workers and crew foreman, as needed. Job Duties • Prepare new construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting space. Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials from job site. Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed. • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes. Shovel materials to and from construction areas, including asphalt and dirt • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. Operate a variety of hand and power tools and other equipment • Follow all instructions, rules and requests of the Job Supervisor / Foreman and Operations Manager. • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner while following all health and safety regulations. Safely use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks. • Maintain and submit accurate paperwork as requested, including but not limited to employee time and field notes. • Work well in a team, including but not limited to understanding and communicating information clearly. • Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones. • Install sewer, water, and storm drain pipes, using machinery and laser guidance equipment. • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools. Requirements and Qualifications • Must have construction experience • Must have a valid commercial driver's license • Must be at least 18 years of age • Ability to work on job sites with minimal supervision required • High School diploma or GED equivalent • Willing to work and have reliable transportation. Physical Demands/Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • The employee must frequently lift up to 50lbs repeatedly through an entire shift, along with climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and grasping. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and stand on uneven surfaces. • Excellent stamina • Continuously work outside in extreme environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and wet temperatures.
