PLAINVIEW, NY — A Hempstead woman stole over $300,000 while on the job at John's Farm in Plainview over the last year, Nassau County police said.
Police said that Maria Pineda, a 20-year-old assistant manager at the store, removed cash while counting the daily transactions between January of last year and this February. The discrepancies were noticed by another employee who reviewed the company's records and found voided transactions that were entered by Pineda, police said.
Pineda was caught "performing fraudulent voids" and removed $1,400 from the business on Sunday, police said. She was charged with second, third-and fourth-degree grand larceny, two counts of first-degree falsifying business record, all felonies. She will be arraigned on Monday in Mineola.
If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in a state prison.
