Stratford Good Samaritan's Leg Amputated After Crash On Route 15

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man needed to have his right leg amputated after being seriously injured in a crash while helping a person whose vehicle broke down on the Merritt Parkway earlier this month, according to the Connecticut Post. The Post reports Bernard Jeanty, 46, has been hospitalized since the Feb. 4 accident near Exit 31 in Greenwich. Jeanty, an Uber driver, was on his way home when he stopped to give a jump start to a vehicle that had broken down on the side of the road, according to the Post. "As he was assisting the owner of the disabled vehicle an oncoming car hit Bernard's car," according to a GoFundMe campaign that was launched to assist Jeanty's family. "The force of the impact caused by collision resulted in the cars to veer off the road, hitting Bernard." Jeanty needed to have his right leg amputated and was undergoing evaluations and surgery on his left leg, which might also need to be amputated, according to the GoFundMe page. "Bernard father of four (4) has a long road to recovery ahead of him," reads a post on the GoFundMe page. "Due to the accident Bernard will be out of work and will need extensive medical interventions. We are hoping to raise funds to support the family during this time. "Please continue to pray for Bernard and his family as the family battles with this life altering accident." The GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $36,000 as of Monday afternoon.
