1 Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — One person is dead following a hit-and-run crash in Round Lake Beach, police said. Authorities were called to the area of Route 83 near Fox Chase Drive at 6:34 a.m. on Saturday to check on the report of a male who was unresponsive and lying near the ditch line, according to a news release from the Round Lake Beach Police Department. Authorities found the male lying on the west side of the road, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police also found several pieces of vehicle debris in the area. Police said Sunday they found the sports utility vehicle involved in the crash but did not indicate if anyone was in custody as of Monday morning. An autopsy for the person killed in the crash, whose name has not yet been released, will be performed on Monday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Team. This is a developing story. Check back to Patch for more updates.
