ELMHURST, IL — For the fourth week in a row, Elmhurst experienced one of its lowest rates of new coronavirus cases. As of Sunday, the city saw 44 new cases in the last week, or a 1.2 percent increase, for a total of 3,655. That is up from the previous week's increase of eight-tenths of 1 percent. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same over the last week, at 59. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.6 percent. That is down by five from the previous week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 172 people have died from the coronavirus at the facility. The number is up by four from a week ago. Since March, 1,515 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.
