ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a gun in a snowbank, stepping on toes, school harassment, stolen groceries, a gift card scam, photo blackmail, a car burglary, a liquor theft and a found wallet. Here is information from the reports: Gun in snowbank A gun was found in a snowbank at 601 N. York. St. about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The gun was not loaded. The gun was placed into evidence. An investigation is pending. Stepping on toes A person in the 600 block of North York Street informed police that a man was close to him and stepped on his sandal at 5 p.m. Saturday. An argument resulted. The suspect followed the victim to his car in an attempt to get him to fight. The victim did not wish to pursue charges. The suspect was described as white, 30 years old, 6 feet, 2 inches, and having an average build. School harassment A person at Visitation School, 851 S. York St., informed police of a harassing video involving a student that was posted on Snapchat Wednesday. An investigation is pending. Stolen groceries A resident in the 500 block of West Armitage Avenue told police Saturday that her Instacart delivery was stolen from her front porch and that she had video footage of the suspects. A nonprofit agency contacted the police department and stated volunteers in the area collecting food pantry donations inadvertently took the victim's box. The groceries were returned to the resident. Gift card scam A resident in the 400 block of West Butterfield Road said he received a notification on his computer Thursday that his computer had been hacked. The victim contacted the phone number listed on the notification and spoke to a person purporting to be with tech support. The person instructed the victim to buy gift cards to solve the issue. The victim bought the gift cards and provided the person with the card numbers. Photo blackmail A resident in the 400 block of Argyle Avenue sent numerous digital images to an unknown person on Snapchat. The person took screenshots and demanded money or the images would be disseminated. The victim did not wish to pursue a complaint. The report was made Friday. Car burglary A car in the 500 block of North Michigan Street was burglarized between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Currency was stolen. Liquor theft Three men hid numerous bottles of liquor in their coats and stole them from Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York St., about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Wallet found A wallet was found in a snowbank about noon Sunday at Mary Court and Junior Terrace. The wallet was placed into evidence to be returned to the owner.
