Stop Passing School Buses, Solon Police Say

SOLON, OH — Drivers are passing school buses in Solon, even as children are getting on or off the bus, police said. "This is a reminder that school buses have cameras, and a bus driver's report can result in a citation. More importantly, not stopping can result in hitting a child pedestrian," Solon police said on social media. Most children who are killed in bus-related incidents are 4 to 7 years old, according to the National Safety Council. They're often hit by cars illegally passing a stopped bus. Drivers should never pass a stopped bus from behind, the council reminded motorists. The 10 feet around a stopped bus are the most dangerous for children, so cars should be stopped outside of that zone when trailing buses. "Please take a minute, and stop for school buses to keep children safe," police said. We are still receiving reports of vehicles passing school buses loading/unloading children.
