Central Park Snow Bears Bring A Smile To New Yorkers

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Super cute snow bear sculptures in Central Park are turning heads and creating smiles on the Upper West Side. Artist Heide Hatry has spent the last two weeks creating nearly 20 sculptures of the different bears. Photo credit: Patch The bear's habitat is near 86th Street on the west side of the park. Hatry knows the snow bears are brightening up people's day, but she also includes a message about climate change in many of the cub-tastic sculptures. "They made lots of people smile, and I hope we realize that they need our help to survive the upcoming decades," Hatry wrote on Instagram, talking about the endangerment of polar bears. In the same post, she made a plea for people to donate to Polar Bears International. "Gorgeous!! Thank you for this! Such a delight to find in the park," a commenter on Hatry's Instagram wrote. On one sculpture of a mother and cub, she placed a sign in front of the two bears reading, "Mommy, what's a carbon footprint?"
