CARTERSVILLE, GA — Bond has been denied for a Woodstock man charged with murder in connection with the brutal stabbing death of his mother. Bryan Ray Moodie, 38, was denied bond in Bartow County Magistrate Court. Authorities said they believe Moodie stabbed to death his mother, Kay Garrity, 62, at his brother's house in White where the two were pet-sitting. Moodie was spotted outside the house next morning by neighbors, wearing only his underwear. The brother found Garrity's body when he returned home about nine hours later. WBHF Community Radio in Cartersville reported Monday that Garrity had been stabbed 25 times — to her throat, back, torso, hands and arms. When Garrity was found, she was so caked with dried blood that investigators were initially unable to identify the fatal blows. As of Monday, Moodie remains in the Bartow County jail. The court has ordered that he undergo a psychiatric exam. Hear the story from WBHF Community Radio.
