Wow. Once upon a time music was a great unifier. How has it come to this? If you listen to rock n' roll, most of it was HEAVILY influenced by the old time great black blues musicians who got no cred until the 60's British Invasion. Jazz, too. If some people want like-minded, or a distinct look to their band, so be it. Not that I listen to them, but the Spice Girls were an all-girl band. Sure they may have had more diversity, but does it matter? Not everything has to be political. In my own band, there is a look that I go for. Maybe it's not race exclusive but there is a look to a "rocker". Let people form whatever band they want. If it's a good band people will go see them. If it's not then they won't. If you don't like the image, the sound or the structure of the band, don't go. I've never seen Marylin Manson. Don't like his image, message or music. But that's the great thing about music. There's something for everyone. Demographic quotas don't apply to musical bands.
Don't fall for the political nonsense going on out there. Republican or Democrat. Each is one foot marching us straight into hell. For you ladies trying to start an All-girl, All-ebony band, best of luck to you. You do you. Once you've found all the pieces, it will be a challenge enough to keep it together (egos, schedules, personalities). There will be enough internal issues without worrying about random posts from strangers.
As far as everyone else who is giving them a hard time, are you even musicians or singers? If you are, you know that you have a standard or expectation for the group that extends beyond race. I know a band who auditioned a decent singer that was "too fat" to front a rock band, in their opinion. That's just my two cents in following this thread over the past few days. Everybody take a breath and remember that we are all people. Jerks and jackasses in ALL races. Don't be one of them.
