Grounds Person for Cemetery Job Description Seattle Cemetery looking for a qualified groundskeeper to join our team. This position will maintain the cemetery grounds, including mowing, trimming, blowing, and fall leaf clean up. In addition, this position will be responsible for preparing graves sites for burials, performing burials, assisting in locating grave sites on the cemetery grounds. We offer competitive pay and benefits, including health and dental insurance after a waiting period, one week paid vacation after one year. Full time position available. Job Requirements: • Enjoys physical work and able to perform heavy, strenuous work outdoors in all weather conditions. • Mechanically inclined. • Ability to follow written and oral directions. • Ability to speak, read, and understand English. • A valid WSDL with a clean driving record. • Pass a back ground check and drug screen. • Ability to walk at least five (5) miles per day as job necessitates. • Raking and removal of leaves, both manually and using a hand held leaf blower. • Trimming of trees, hedges, and shrubbery using necessary equipment, this may include shears, commercial grade weed eaters and hedge trimmers. • Shoveling and digging by hand. • Setting up grave sites, including loading and unloading of trailer, tents, lowering device, chairs, and greens. Pound stakes to raise tent and grave tamping. • Lifting, removal, and placing of caskets from hearse to gravesite approximately 30-75 yards. Includes walking along side, in excess of 250 lbs. • Washing and storage of equipment properly. The ideal candidate will be open to learning and preforming the following job expectations: • Knowledge of use of heavy equipment including excavator, backhoe, riding mower. • Backhoe grave digging using commercial tractor. • Lifting & setting of markers into ground. • Using lowering device to lower liners and lids/guiding liners and lids. • Hand lowering of caskets, in excess of 250 lbs. • Hook & unhook, manually rotate and move aside trailers from tractor. • Ability to back up a tractor in tight quarters.
