I'm not a conservative, but I lurk on conservative boards (like r/conservative) and some hobby boards that lean conservative (like gun and pyro forums) because I want to be "well rounded" (and because I enjoy those hobbies). Everyone there had more or less given up on Trump before the election even started, seeing polling aggregates like 538 giving Biden the overwhelming odds of winning, something like 90% Biden, 10% Trump. Even as the election started to tilt in Biden's favor (from mail-in ballots and late-reporting urban precincts being counted and added last), the conservative boards were accepting the results. It's only after Trump came out and said "STOLEN ELECTION OMG I WON BY A LANDSLIDE CAN'T YOU SEE..." That his followers went full bore conspiracy in support. They looked for any little thing that looked out of place - an election worker in Georgia throwing away a ballot instruction slip accidentally included with a ballot, a Michigan election worker wheeling in camera equipment, a clerical error in a michigan county made BY a Trump supporting clerk, testimony by people who REALLY REALLY wanted Trump to win, etc. They filled in the gaps in Trump's claim to make it look legitimate. Do you really believe this man? He's been claiming that the other side is cheating long before his entrance into politics (a 2012 Beauty Pageant, for example). Trump is a walking participation Trophy, something that conservatives claim to hate. Other conservatives have a history of making bunk voter fraud claims as well. In 2018 the conservative legal group "PILF" was sued by the very people they claimed were "dead". That's a verifiable fraudulent claim of voter fraud, proven in court. Why should I believe conservatives now? Had Trump even pretended to care about Covid, he would have coasted to re-election. Don't kid yourselves, this is what most Americans cared about in 2020, and it's what brought people out in droves to "fire Trump". Most of my family vote conservative typically, and most of them voted Biden this election. Just look around the world too, leaders' popularity rose or fell depending on how well they handled Covid.
