Description
First of all, I'm based in Charlottesville, but have family in Richmond so through there often. Basically, as a long time (gen x age & influences) solo and small act guitarist and solid singer, I feel I've been
at my best collaborating with female melody and harmony, myself in the backing role, and it just sounds so great when a man and woman harmonize. Thus, looking for an experienced, or not, female singer and guitarist, or any instrumentalist - guitars are just so much more mobile! I do have a lot of wonderful experience in this collaborative form, first in college at JMU with a coed singer and guitarist doing covers done by Michelle Shocked, Lucinda Williams, Tracy Chapman, Nanci Griffith, Shawn Colvin etc. - it went over really well, and well received around the state. We're still in touch, but about 900 miles apart! My day job in education has always included a music program in the building, in such one out in LA 15 years ago, local working female musicians I knew volunteered for collaborative sessions with budding female singers and players in the school - really cool, heavily emotive stuff. So now, ultimately seek to pick songs readily learnable and more recognizable, of any range of female vocal pieces and artists, with me on harmony mainly as a goal - these days it's also so easy to have the tablet in front of you scrolling lyrics, so that's a learning curve bonus. I haven't chased down gigs regularly for a few years, I still have OBX gig connections, but I do now look at the local wineries, and the breweries as the "new bars", and those would be the main target for gig sources as an initial goal by Spring. Fun guy to play with here, looking for what would be a focused fun endeavor - hopefully I'll hear. Oh yea, here's a picture of my programs conveyance I picked up when I taught in LA., and another with two dear Teacher friends from my LA days.
