WHITEFISH BAY, WI — A march to observe the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act will take place in Milwaukee's North Shore, and will take on a wider social justice theme this year. The Americans with Disabilities Act 30th Anniversary March Against Hate will be held on Sunday, July 26 on the 30-year anniversary of the passage of ADA in 1990. The ADA is law that protects people living with disabilities against multiple forms of discrimination in the U.S. "This critical civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public," organizers said. "Join us for an accessible march to continue discussion within our community on Black Lives Matter, racial injustices, systemic racism, and police reform." The event will start with a gathering and art project from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Cahill Square Park, 4950 N. Woodruff Ave. in Whitefish Bay. Sign-making supplies will be available, organizers said. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., attendees will participate in a 3-mile round-trip march. Organziers said the march route will be flat, with many planned stops for discussion, speakers, rest, and conversation. Sight guides and American Sign Language interpreters will be present as well as a Disability Support Team and medics, organizers said, and assistive mobility devices may be available for use during the march. Mask use is strongly encouraged, and maintaining 6 feet of distance is also recommended, organizers said. Masks will be available for those who need them.
