WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Two pharmacy owners are looking to inject new life into the former Fitzgerald Pharmacy storefront in Whitefish Bay with the opening of a Hayat Pharmacy. The roughly $1 million project would come with major upgrades, with owners Tamir Kaloti and Hashim Zaibak funding a large portion of the project and Whitefish Bay incentive funding covering another part.
According to Whitefish Bay Community Development Authority documents, Whitefish Bay Pharmacy by Hayat is proposing to open a pharmacy in the former Fitzgerald Pharmacy space at 424 E Silver Spring Drive.
The owners say interior of the existing space will be completely gutted and rebuilt to create a brand new and modern space that still maintains the charm of its predecessor. In addition, Hayat is looking to add a soda fountain, benches outside, removing and replacing the store-front windows with high-efficiency dual-pained glass, and installing exterior signs.
In addition, Hayat is seeking to enhance building access for people with disabilities with automatic doors and ADA compliant facilities.
"We are attempting to build a brand new, well designed, well laid out, high quality facility with high level finishes to re-institute this pharmacy in the best possible fashion," the owners said in a statement to village officials.
"Based on the grant program criteria, the BID Economic development committee endorses the proposed grant program application for Hayat Pharmacy. We are excited for the potential addition to the district," Jeff Commer BID President wrote previously.
