WHITEFISH BAY, WI— The Whitefish Bay ice skating rink is nearly done. In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the Milwaukee Winter Club finished laying the first layer of ice at Cahill. "This layer will be painted before we then pull another all-nighter to apply the topcoat," the organization explained. "So things are close!" The Milwaukee Winter Club is also asking for the community's help in getting the final supplies the club needs to outfit the rink. "While construction continues apace, we still need to raise funds in order to cover operating costs like a new Zamboni,"according to the organization's website. "We are so close to our goal, but still need donations to help us meet our fundraising goal. There are several ways to support the new rink." The community ice rink at Cahill will be open to the entire Whitefish Bay community, to promote outdoor recreation, skating and the sport of hockey to adults and kids. The rink will be removed in early March. With a chiller system in place, the rink will be able to be skated at any time If the temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
