WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI—Three people are dead, including a man who exchanged gunfire with deputies, following a home invasion in the Town of Kewaskum, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Washington County is located north of Waukesha. On Wednesday afternoon, the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a landline 911 phone call from a resident in the 8100 Block of Forest View Road reporting a man who had forced his way into the home demanding the keys to a car, a news release from the sheriff's office said. In a second 911 call made from a neighboring home, a person reported hearing gun shots and saw an armed person walking towards their home. When deputies arrived, there was an exchange of gunfire with the armed suspect who ran away. A perimeter was established and a drone located the suspect dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A firearm was also located near him. Deputies found a person dead outside the first 911 caller's residence. A witness said that the resident had been shot by the armed suspect before police arrived. During that search of nearby properties, SWAT officers located one additional victim that died of an apparent gunshot wound, the release said. Washington County Sheriff's Office said: "This tragic incident has left two innocent citizens dead, at different residences, as well as the lone suspect. It is a sad day for the citizens of Washington County. On behalf of the sheriff's office, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the victims' families of this senseless crime. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing whatever resources are necessary to provide the families with as much information and closure as we possibly can. The names of the victims are not being released at this time to allow families ample time to grieve for their loss and make appropriate notifications." Writing and reporting from the Associated Press was used in this report.
