OAK CREEK, WI — Administrators and law enforcement said they fully anticipate Oak Creek High School will resume normal in-person classes Monday after a threat caused Friday classes at both the Ninth Grade Center and 10-12 campus to go virtual. In a Friday afternoon letter, Oak Creek High School Principal Candis Morgan, Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District Superintendent Dan Unertl and Oak Creek Chief of Police Steven Anderson reiterated their commitment to providing a safe and positive learning environment, thanked students and parents for their flexibility and warned there would be consequences for anyone connected to making the threat. "We want to thank you for your support and understanding," the letter stated. "We know this has been a challenging school year. But our students, staff and families have taken on each challenge and together, we are stronger because of it." The letter said in-person classes would resume as expected on Monday, though there would be additional police in the building and in the community around the high school. Police also will patrol the area over the weekend. The letter offered resources to parents who might need assistance in discussing the situation with their children and urged children with information that might assist the investigation to contact Oak Creek Crime Stoppers at 414-766-7699. On Facebook, the Oak Creek Police Department asked the public for information regarding the incident and said tips leading to successful charges could get rewards. The police department said those looking to remain anonymous should contact Crime Stoppers. Earlier in the day, Unertl said the decision to pivot to remote learning was made by the leadership team and threat assessment team in collaboration with the police department. Unertl said the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution." Read more at WISN.com.
